A Dallas ICE shooting on Wednesday morning killed one person and injured two others. Authorities said the suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Dallas police reported that officers responded to a call at approximately 6:40 a.m. on 24 September. The preliminary investigation found that a suspect opened fire at the ICE field office from an adjacent building. Police immediately transported two victims to Parkland Hospital. One victim died at the scene. Officers confirmed that the scene is secure, and they plan to provide a detailed update later.
Kristi Noem, the Department of Homeland Security secretary, confirmed the shooter’s death and said details are still emerging. She added that the incident involved “multiple injuries and fatalities” at the ICE facility. Noem emphasized the need to stop violence against ICE law enforcement.
Law enforcement sources told CNN that at least two victims were ICE detainees. ICE officials also confirmed to NBC News that all three people shot were detainees, and no ICE agents were hurt. Todd Lyons, the acting ICE director, said authorities secured the scene quickly.
Dan Bongino, deputy director of the FBI, said federal agents are working closely with state and local law enforcement to investigate the incident. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance called it an “obsessive attack on law enforcement” and offered prayers for the victims.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz also expressed support for first responders and wished the injured a swift recovery. Senator John Cornyn described the shooting as “horrific” and confirmed he is coordinating with local officials to ensure all necessary resources are available for the investigation.
Additionally, Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that the state fully supports ICE. He emphasized that the attack will not slow down enforcement actions, including arrest, detention, and deportation of illegal immigrants. Abbott said authorities will work with ICE and Dallas police to determine the shooter’s motive.
Overall, the Dallas ICE shooting highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face and the importance of a coordinated response to violent incidents. Citizens are urged to follow official updates and stay safe while authorities investigate the situation.
