9-Year-Old Killed, Brother Injured in Koreatown RV Hit-and-Run
A 9-year-old boy tragically died, and his 19-year-old brother suffered injuries after an RV struck them in Koreatown on Thursday evening. The driver, suspected of driving under the influence (DUI), stayed at the scene and faced arrest by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
The incident took place at around 7:30 p.m. near South New Hampshire Avenue and 4th Street. The siblings were riding an e-scooter when the RV made a left turn, hitting them.
Driver Arrested for DUI After the Crash
Nadir Gavarrete, the 9-year-old boy, died at the scene. His brother was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.
A neighbor, Candy Williams, shared her account of the incident. She said, “He almost ran me over. I just moved quickly, and then he hit some babies.” Williams described the driver as reckless, saying, “Are you high or what?”
